You just have to assign your FTP  to a local drive letter ( E,F,X,Y etc.).  There are some programs on the internet that can do it.  I used NetDrive .

1. Download NetDrive

2. Map your  server to a local drive

This will not disable  background file activity window fully. You will just get rid off the annoying waiting after CTRL+S .

Solution 2

I found this in one forum:

1. Go to Edit ->Preferences -> Site
2. Find File transfer options
3. Change value of  Select default action after x seconds to 0 . It was 30 before.

Are you coding in Dreamweaver and don’t like the default light code colorization? I created dark background color theme for Dreamweaver.  I took inspiration from Green Chaud theme for Aptana IDE.

  1. Close Dreamweaver
  2. Go to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS4\configuration\CodeColoring\
  3. Find and backup file Colors.xml
  4. Copy file colors.xml downloaded from this site
  5. Change default background color to #4D4D4D  (edit –> preferences –> code coloring)

Dreamweaver CS3

  1. Close Dreamweaver
  2. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver 9\Configuration\CodeColoring\
  3. Find and backup file Colors.xml
  4. Copy file colors.xml downloaded from this site
  5. Change default background color to #4D4D4D (edit –> preferences –> code coloring)
